Some rando: You should think about stopping your prescription

Me: My pills make me not want to die tho

They: You shouldn’t want to die, that’s not normal

Me: Yeah that’s why I’m taking my pills

Again: But you aren’t the *real* you when you’re on your pills

Me: I’m the alive version of me

An actual doctor, once: “Relying On A Chemical Crutch For A Hormonal Imbalance Denies The Fortitude Of The Human Soul”

Me: Cool so like I’m agnostic

They: “But you might be on pills the rest of your life!”

Me: “So?”

Good! That means that I have a “rest of” my life to continue living!

Thanks to the pills.

Meanwhile, no person ever: “You should think about giving up your insulin/antiretrovirals/beta blockers/anti-rejection drugs/prosthetic legs/daily multivitamin, because using those your whole life is bad for some reason”

Oh no, they do that too.

I have a kidney transplant. A woman once told me she didn’t believe in organ transplants and that people should just die when they’re meant to.

Sounds like a great set-up for a murder

People who are fully healthy, fit and neurotypical seem to think they are that way because they’re doing something right that the rest of us haven’t thought of, and not just because they got lucky

Speaking of the luck of the non-disabled…I once terrorized a Karen who was using me to teach her entitled kid that disabled people are Other and should not be treated with respect. I told her (truthfully) that until I was twenty-eight, I wasn’t visibly disabled. Then a defective chromosome that I hadn’t known about kicked in. So my luck ran out. But until then, I had been normal–just…like…her.

The sheer terror on her face as the concept of “You mean I’ve just been lucky so far?” seeped into her brain was a thing of beauty.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

“You are one stroke of bad luck, common viral illness, or traumatic event away from being just like me” is honestly the most terrifying thing you can tell an abled person - and you should. I was healthy and fit and doing everything ‘right’ too - right up until some inner switch flipped and my body crumbled right out from under me.

This is exceedingly common. Cops will shoot their own dogs, then use their deaths as copaganda.

The vast majority of police dogs “killed in the line of duty” are killed by the cops themselves.

Cops also kill an average of 25 pet dogs every single day, per Justice Department statistics. Frequently these dogs are shot and killed while children are present.

Dogs and cops do not mix.

i genuinely dont care if the creation of all media comes to a screeching halt btw i will very gladly live with no new movies no new tv shows no new anything for years if that’s what it takes for the people who create them to be treated like human beings. i hope every other facet of the entertainment industry goes on strike too and i hope all the ones that havent unionised yet will. i want media creation to become completely impossible and i want the people who could make it possible again to hold out until they get every single thing they want. btw

what the anti-ageing 30 step skincare preemptive botox girlies haven’t worked out yet is that youthfulness is an inner glow that comes from playing and laughing and losing yourself to the present moment

you can be in a perfectly preserved skin sack but if you don’t smile or play in the sunshine then you’re ageing yourself faster than any of us with our laugh lines and full lives

Tumblr reply, the replier's url and icon have been censored: "Hey, as a cult survivor - please don’t do this. It’s insanely disrespectful to compare fictional situations to real life cults that often take advantage of vulnerable people for their own gain."ALT

Fiction often imitates real life situations. In fact, fiction is a great way to explore and raise awareness about real things.

It’s not inherently disrespectful to show real things in fiction, or comparing between fiction and real life. It’s all about how you go about it.

Not a cult survivor myself but have spent a lot of time studying them and like statistically if you understand how a cult operates and indoctrinates people you put yourself and your loved ones at a lower risk of being taken in as you will begin to recognise the patterns of indoctrination. There’s way more harm in the fear mongering and sensationalising of cults in news media than there is in critically analysing depictions of cults or cult-like communities in fiction. Fiction can be an educational tool and if more people learn how to spot indoctrination methods because they saw someone draw comparisons to a movie they liked, that’s a net good.

“writers deserve attention more than actors” literally only 2% of actors can pay the bills with acting. For every megastar on screen there are a dozen other people in the shot who are SAG. Acting gets so glamorized but there are SO MANY people in SAG who NEED residuals to live on. Background Party Girl #4 needs her check too!!!! There are people who play recurring characters on syndicated shows who cant afford health insurance!!! Ke Huy Quan gave an oscar winning performance and LOST HIS HEALTH INSURANCE the next year.

also interesting how when it was just the writers on strike it was “ugh why do they even need more pay they’re all rich anyways” and now that the actors have joined the strike it’s “well the writers deserve more attention cause actors are all rich anyways.” wonder who it benefits to constantly be portraying striking workers as greedy whiners & pitting them against each other.

Genderkoolaid is hinting at it here but I’m gonna be direct, in case anyone missed it. THESE ARE BULLSHIT IDEAS! Neither actors nor writers “deserve” more attention/pay than the other, they BOTH deserve all the attention and good pay! Don’t let the corporations trick you into pitting actors and writers against each other! Actors and writers are workers, they’re together against the companies/corporations, they are NOT competing!

A gorgeous, talented Black girl on TikTok independently released a single with a music video for it that’s probably one of the few songs I could describe as Goth Pop, both by the sound itself and by her being clearly versed in the goth subculture, and she’s getting so many mean comments. The song is good, she dances gothly and beautifully, her voice is very soft and sweet. Pay her a listen!

i saw a really cool butterfly expert man on PBS and was so in awe of him and his butterfly knowledge i tracked down the episode online to see how to spell his name and found his twitter and followed him, only for the next day to awaken to him having read not only my webcomic, but also my livetweets saying how i wanted to marry the butterfly man. he said he was flattered. anyway the moral of the story is please don’t underestimate how far down your twitter a bored entomologist will scroll, and also the internet was a mistake.
